Working out with "The Slosh Tube"
« on: March 27, 2008, 03:24:35 AM »
The Slosh Tube is a bit of PVC pipe about 3 meters long, 4 inches thick, and filled with 20 litres of water.  You can build one for approx. $20.

It's surprisingly difficult to control the Slosh Tube, because the water in the tube is always moving around - just when you think you have it stabilised, the water moves again, throwing you all over the place.  I could really feel my entire mid-section getting a good thrashing - the balance required to hold this thing is incredible.  I would recommend this to anyone who wants to improve their core strength and balance.

Check out the photos (below) to see me and Owen getting completely owned by this evil device  :-[

I forgot to mention...

Here's a few exercise ideas for the Slosh Tube:

  • Lunges and Squats
  • Burpees
  • Push Press
  • Sit Ups whilst holding it on your chest
  • Walking with it, running with it...

Very cool... looks like a good side-project for me this summer.
RN, B.Sc. Health Promotion and Wellness. Public Health Nurse serving a Great Lakes Native American tribe. Husband and father. Lousy at cards, but with a fair singing voice. Good to have around when the excrement hits the rotating cooling apparatus.

The MMA school I train at now have three sitting out back...

The new guys named them the "devil sticks". Hahaha

We loved 'em so much, we have a couple 1/3 full kegs getting moveds around too.

The Keg is a great idea...

We've been trying to acquire a keg for sometime... recently a couple of the lads tried to borrow one from a local pub.  They were subsequently chased by a bouncer, which compelled them to drop the keg and run away - I believe they ended up hiding in someone's shrubbery to avoid getting caught.

I don't endorse the theft of a keg, but it was a funny story.

Update...

the slosh tubes should only be used outside!

We busted the end loose on one in the middle of our mats and had to cancel the kids jiu-jitsu class yesterday
