Can someone tell me what kind of veggies are good for this diet.  And is this diet ok if you have high cholesterol? :-\

I think pretty much all veggies are ok except for potatoes, beans(including green beans) and peas.

As for your cholesterol query, i would say chop off the visible fat from the meat, and make sure you eat a balance of red meat/chicken/fish. Also perhaps limit your eggs to 2 a day.

Enjoy :)

according to the research on cholesterol, its the grains and starchy root vegetables that really contribute to it. saturated fat actually does little to cholesterol, gotta watch out for those grains and starches!  I personally think this diet is perfect for people who have high cholesterol as it omit the grains and starches from the diet. I keep trying to get my mom to follow this diet but she loves bread so much. coincidentally the years she eats more bread and grains are the years her cholesterol spikes. but shes so stubborn...

I agree with Nicki, no potatoes, legumes, peas, beans, etc.

I eat beans and peas on occasion, maybe once every 2-3 months. So if you eat them its not that big of a deal, just try to limit them as much as possible.

Thank you both for the info.  My mom did a diet like this when she was in her 40's and lost like 60lbs BUT she could not have but 60 carbs a day.  I'm certain this was dangerous for her health.  She only ate meat and lettuce and when she got down to the weight she wanted to be she would get off the diet on the weekends and eat whatever she wanted.  She had donuts, breads, candies basically all the junkfood she could eat.  She loves breads and makes the best sweet bread. she is now  extremely overweight.  I am so happy I found this FREE website.  Free support from people that seem to care and want you to succeed and not just focus on the $$$$ I tried the mail order meals and lost 40 but gained 40+ back.  I too tried the "low Carb diet" and lost about 30 lbs and felt great.  I failed at staying on it because I only ate meats, cheese  pork skins.  There was not a lot of info available to me about the low carb diet unless I wanted to pay for a book that I would have never fully read.  I like the Forum on this site and I am truly excited about a healthier life style.  My fiance' has high cholesterol and pretty much eats whatever he wants. I was worried about the red meats in this diet but what can it hurt to try.  He is a bread lover as well.  Has to have bread with every meal.  I think if I can get my mom and my fiance' on board we might all stick with it and feel healthy and not sluggish.  Thanks again !!!!!             Amy Sue  :)

The paleo lifestyle is one that is low in carbs as well - we get all the carbohydrate we need from fruit and vegetables. It differs from the Atkins diet because we are actively encouraged to eat lots of fruit and vegetables, so it is much more balanced and definitely healthier.
Cut out the produce of agriculture and eat primally and you'll see huge results. It's also easier to stay on because you do include 'good' carbs from natural foods.

Thank you Falcon for the words of encouragement. I think this new way of eating will be much easier knowing i can have some fruits and vegetables.  I'm sure my kidneys will be happen to receive some source of good carbs.  I heard that a dangerously low carb diet can cause renal failure  I want to get healthy, not go on kidney dialysis. from what I've read this diet seems to be pretty reasonable and a healthy approach to losing weight.

50-100 carbs a day are the sweet spot for weight loss...

Here's some good reading on basic principles...

hi amysue seems like you have already had some good advice from the "tribe". I just wanted to comment on this (quote below) The news and media are really bad for telling you what is good or bad to eat - well Mark Sisson is very good at putting this shock headlines into perspective check this out

Hope this helps

This isn't a low carb diet...... it's just eating different carbs than you're used to. You'll be having UNPROCESSED carbs from fruit and veg rather than PROCESSED carbs from cakes/biscuits/pasta/bread. You're kidneys will be just fine :)

Thank you! The link and your comments have put my mind at ease.  I have been worried about it. Crazy how something that taste so good like cakes, cookies, bread and sugars can be so harmful!  I'm sure I will find some delicious meals on this  diet.  I downloaded the recipe books on here so I will be looking for some ideas in there.
