Hey Nicki,
Just thought I'd give you some positive feedback and tell you how much your guidance has helped me become solid and a perfect cave woman....

First and foremost, all my oils and butter are natural. Even found a jar of very expensive pure virgin coconut oil that I use (sparingly) to cook with.
Second, I have completely mastered stage3 and gone completely paleo. Given up all my protein shakes and or rice... Get all my carbs from good fats & veggies.
Third, Adopted the nothing at all during the day and feast once in the evenings. No more hunger pangs and I just hit all my calorie needs for my gym! Double YAY!!!

I have to say, it's taken forever to adopt/adjust and find what works. It is true what they say. Never rush things and experimentation is the way to go otherwise you will never find the right path/ways of adopting to this type of lifestyle.
I am now all ketogenic and loving it. Not trying to lose weight anymore but it is starting to come off slowly (FRIGGIN BONUS)

I would like to thank all of you that rendered positive support and good advice. Happy caving people. This lifestyle has changed me for the better. I still have to go see a physician to check my cholesterol levels make sure I am safe with my ketosis etc as my diet is high fat, moderate protein & no carbs or some from veggies.

It does not work for everybody but some of us have definitely found solace in caveman ways. My gluten problems have all disappeared and I no longer suffer from irritable bowel syndrome. The illness controlled my life and now I feel like a new person. I have so much time and freedom, I don't know what to do with it all.

I'm here to stay  :-*

Nicki is right. It takes a while and it is hard. Don't beat ourself up so hard. Once you are in the right frame of mind and mentally prepared, you will find your weak point or weakness and learn/know how to avoid them... It took me a good old sweet time to be able to get to stage3!!!

Now come on, dust your a$$ up.......let's go :)

I often feel that when people decide to follow this way of living.......and still asking such questions; they haven't really done their research and have not fully understood the reasoning behind this lifestyle. Don't be like one of those who do this for a completely wrong reason and end up falling at the first huddle. I suggest you spend some time reading up about fasting and feasting. There's tons on the Internet to help you. Some really good stuff!

Just forget the gimmicks. Eat natural wholesome foods. My biggest tip to you would be, eat fresh and chew all your food. You can eat plenty of protein still but with added vegetables & some fruit, you will have no gap to fill with all that other crap. Trust me! You will feel satisfied.

Wow! I am just wondering how much strain must your kidneys be suffering! Think the reason protein gets a bad reputation (causes kidney problems) is because of such crazy ass diets man... How are you not constipated day in day out????

Everything in moderation. Eat clean, train hard.......you will see results. Balance your meals and get your macronutrients in check! Work on the 40/40/20 equation and you will see miracles happen... This is insane man lol

The stomach pain was due to over-eating and indigestion. I've since sorted it out. Takes a while to adjust and learn new habits. My hunger pangs during the day aren't as intense and I can now go all day without food actually and still feel okay in the evening after feeding on a medium-large meal. I have learnt how to pace myself lol

I cook/fry with duck fat now and it seems pretty legit. I get it from waitrose. I no longer fry my eggs though unless I'm making an English breakfast to feast on in the evening. Eat them boiled.

Just my 2 cents. If you are trying to lose weight, you need to workout what your BMR (basic metabolic rate) is first. Be sure you understand exactly what that is. There are tons of tools to use and don't get confused. So your BMR should be your basic calorie limit that your body needs just to function. Let's say you were in bed all day, those are the calories YOU NEED TO EAT per day regardless of your diet e.g a 5''7 female weighing 143lbs would need 1400 calories to be alive. Then you need to add 500 calories if you exercise... From that you need to decide whether to stay at your daily calorie needed to lose weight or add a little more and workout 4-5times a week to lose weight. The way it works is, calories in equals calories out.

I think what you are doing is either eating too many calories, less protein and less good fats or eating way too little........that is below your daily calorie need and so your body shifts in to starvation mode and hanging on to every ounce you put in your mouth. You need to balance your macronutrients really well. Less carbs. Regardless of what diet or lifestyle you are on, calories play a very important role in weight loss and weight gain.

Oh man! So thrilled for you Cowley. Well done.

It's been really hard for me. I put on weight instead of losing. I can only think of one reason.....that I was already on a low carb diet and had lost weight before this and therefore, my body was readjusting. Annnnnnnd I was eating way too much during my feasts!! I am however starting to go backwards on the scale again. One thing I struggle with is going without brown rice. I have since found out that I am possibly gluten sensitive so I eat paleo 80% of the time (no wheat/bread/cereal/pasta etc). Problem is I train hard at the gym & play sports.....it is therefore impossible to go without starchy carbs. I try potatoes but I end up eating too much of that when I cut the brown rice out. This has been really challenging but I adopted the warrior style diet and starting to learn out again. Think I can see a single pack of abs peeping through lol.

I need tons of help/work to cater to my own lifestyle as this is just it for me now. Never looking back. I tried falling out this lifestyle and ate during the day, I got sick! Food no longer agrees with me in the daytime. Even though I spend most of the day in a fasted state, I do get all my calories in in the night during my feast. I am not starving. At the moment I am following stage3 & cutting, so I'm on the low calorie thingy! Some days are tough as I try not to eat anything during the day and only eat paleo at night. When I'm really starving and tempted, I have a bag of almonds or latte and that gets me through a 20hr+ fast.

Having gone through the process quite a bit (half way through stage2); I feel like I still crave nasty stuff once in a while. Could be because I have the "fat" gene and will always eat crap... Could be because I am working out a lot and forever hungry and this diet is low in carbs... I have no idea.
I almost feel as if I will never be able to cure my nasty appetite for good or for the rest of my life but; eating this way has restored my health and made me into a better human.

I sleep better, less tired in the day, energetic - comes in handy for the gym and most importantly, I eat healthy 80% of the time. One thing I will always be grateful for by finding this diet/lifestyle change is that; I now no longer suffer those disabling IBS symptoms. I eat less gluten containing foods and I am a happy cave girl all round ;D

I've actually stayed clear of them for at least 3 days now (pre-stage2). It is challenging. I am fully starting my next stage this Sunday. Cannot wait...

Just one more question, I have stopped using cooking oil and stuff but I do still fry my meat or steak. Is pork lard ok? Or any other animal fat... It's all I can find. I use olive oil to grill/bake etc.

Hi Nicki,
Yes, I actually stopped eating fruit all together. I feel a lot better. I no longer get that pregnant feeling and my tummy doesn't bloat after my meals. I am introducing strawberries/blueberries/apples slowly and seems to work to far.

My only problem right now is that, I am not getting all my calories in in one night for my training etc. I find it hard to hit 1700cals or more in one evening... I feel like I am overeating. Is brown rice okay to add to my meal just to balance my carbs?  :(

Also, that annoying noise my tummy used to make? Completely gone. I only get it once in a while when I haven't had water for some time.

Happy proceedings all round so far. Thank you so much for your help ;)

Week 4 - stage1... I feel fantastic. I am not yet shifting the weight but I am starting to see muscle definition. This is possibly partly because I train a lot and do some weight training. So no doubt I am putting on muscle mass.
To be honest I am not too crazy about what the scales say if I see some results and look better. This way of eating has definitely cured my irritable bowel syndrome and I no longer get those terrible symptoms. I am sure my gut is thanking me right now...

Stage 2 starts next week. I am pumped! I do not feel it will be hard at all. I am already a pro when it comes to meal choices and what not to eat. Slowly weaned myself off carbs end of last week and did not even miss them.

Look forward to a complete change of life. Feeling healthier and performing better. There are hard days but I'd say, more easy days than hard ones.

On my second week of stage1. I have actually gained some weight during this stage... But I look slimmer. Muscle mass perhaps? Not sure! I have decided to actually do the next week or two clean and mimic stage2 by eating nothing in the day and eating sensible in the evenings. I will only keep stage2 short when I get to it... My jeans definitely fit better and people are starting to notice ;D

I truly love this way of eating. I have no care in the world worrying about meals and what to eat during the day especially whilst busy working or on the move. I am never looking back!

Cannot wait for stage2-3.

Yup! Like Cavedan, evenings are the best. Also suits this kind of lifestyle... Fitness coaches and trainers have discovered that their clients build more muscle and the diet works better if aimed towards the end of the day when you've had a good workout session (stimulating all those good hormones ready to burn that feast and help replenish the body) then feed the muscle at the perfect time when the body will utilise the food to the best of its ability and not waste it. So the protein will be very important at this time... The reason this is also the best way to go, sleep plays a very vital and important role in growth/muscle building combined with nutrition. The best fasting time is morning till midday when detoxing at cellular level is at its peak!

Also, after a good exercise and a good meal, one sleeps like a new born baby... It is a cure for insomnia... I used to be one and drugs/doctors advice did not work... Until I discovered the cave-way! Not any more! I feel all brand new!

It's day 8 and a half. I am able to fast all day with at least a single helping to small bits of nuts in the afternoon then eat a well balanced meal at night. I am still not managing to eat as much as I would like. Not sure what is wrong with my tummy... I think it is now genuinely small and therefore should not force all the food I want to it in one sitting. Might have to spread my meal and increase my feeding window... I can't wait to start losing weight I think I am almost ready for stage2 but will see this through for another couple of weeks still. My sweet cravings haven't gone yet. I am starting to fear that they may never go! Damn you sweet tooth!

In exercise you can do cycling or running both are good.

I would advice you to NOT do too much cardio during the fasting phase. Aim for more compound movements targeting all muscles (full body workouts), mainly weight/resistant training with very little rest and with high intensity which will give you your cardio fix all in one... If you must, do at least 15min high intensity interval cardio 2x a week which can be done on a bike/cross trainer/treadmill. Too much cardio (or slow cardio) exercises makes your body go into a catabolic state and then you start to burn muscle rather than fat... Dangerous grounds!

That is partly the problem Nicki. Humans are not patient and we demand quick results/changes/improvements... Nothing will put me off this diet though trust me. I'm in it for life.

It'd be interesting to see what's happening in 2-3weeks that's for sure. I just really need to eat small... But I also panic that if I don't eat enough on my evening meal, my body will kick into starvation mode and I'll start losing muscle! Aahhh! Stress!!

Well today's measurements were a little disappointing... Although, I do feel bloated and a little fat. So it adds up! I am not really expecting to lose that much weight whilst on stage1. So for the next 3 more weeks I will just graze on 1 helping of nuts at lunch time and some berries late afternoon then a normal portion healthy meal in the evenings after gym. I am happy if I stay where I am until stage2 where the "cut" will actually happen and hoping to shed loads...

All in all it's been a fairly challenging ride when it comes to cravings/snacking. Skipping breakfast and ignoring hunger has been surprisingly easy most days - completely shocked! Thought I was gonna cry and ask for my mama LMAO! Loving the alertness and bountiful energy. Enjoying my exercises more too. It's a great feeling!

This is definitely my life. It was made for me. I'm upset it's taken me so long to discover it. But I'm here now. That's what matters!

Hi Ebs, that is a little sad to hear. I have tried other ways and diets and dismally failed too. Know why? Because I always make the mistake of telling people my business. Once you start telling people you are on a diet and how you are doing it, you will always bump into mr and mrs know it all, who feel it's their place to tell you what to do and how you should live your life! And that everything you are doing is wrong... F*%k that!

My secret to success now is, I only discuss my diets with my doctor if I have some concerns... Anyone else doesn't need to know my sh*t! I started this lifestyle/diet a week ago and still haven't told a soul... Which is why I blog about it here, with people who will help and guide me, most importantly, people who will understand and support my decisions. During lunch time or tea time at work, I pretend I'm going to buy my lunch from a cafe but, just find a little corner and read my book or go on twitter/Facebook to pass time. Come back and pretend I ate so much I can't even breathe... They are buying it.

Don't think I will tell my colleagues/family until I know I am strong enough and can take the crap everyone will say to me. Hopefully by then I'll have results and proof that will speak for me rather than try to convince them why I choose to live like this.

Truth of the matter is, you gotta do YOU! You have to do what feels right to you and makes YOU happy no matter what any jack and Jim says to you! You only live once... So live the life you want and know makes you the happiest human on earth. As long as you don't hurt anyone or torture innocent helpless people, you are good to go. So my humble advice to you, try and keep this to yourself. No one else NEEDS to know your business. If you are worried and have some concerns about your diet and your health, we are here to advice you and please, do talk to your physician.

Jesus Christ man, I need to work on my portion sizes real bad. I swear I am not even eating too much nor binging but, I go to bed looking like I'm 3 months pregnant or some sh*t! Nasty! I really don't know where I am going wrong... Haven't gained weight and not losing either... It's day7 stage1. I only graze on minimal nuts/fruit during the day and sometimes nothing till dinner. 2 litres of water... I am doing everything to a T and still feel bloated and fat. I don't even eat junk food in the evenings... What TF is wrong with me cave people? Help!

You do know that stage2 is water ONLY during the day right? And no junk at night? Just veggies, meat, nuts & fruit? Only add carbs (from root veggies) if still hungry?

I feel you ought to be properly prepared and ready! Doing stage1 very well has its benefits... It pays off! You don't have to eat junk on stage1 at all. Like me, I am applying the WARRIOR diet rules where you just eat healthy from the start but eat everything (don't eliminate bread/rice/potatoes so soon).

Don't feel you need to rush this... It is a lifestyle change, therefore, it is important to go through all the emotions of if too... Like babies, they can't run without crawling & taking those important baby steps first... They'll only trip and fall!

I always say to people, like any goal in life... You study/research/equip yourself with knowledge first then do things properly the first time around. Because otherwise we set ourselves out for failure if not better prepared and with better understanding of the "ifs and whys".... Just my two cents! Good luck man!

Some of us live in a busy city (London UK) and work crazy jobs/hours... I say, PLEASE! DO GO TO THE GYM!

We have to be able to do our own things without letting the "normal" society influence our choices... This is how we stay strong in our convictions and lifestyles and choices we make!

The gym is also safe for you! Resistant training or weight lifting will get you to your goal when added to your cardio... Try to do more natural workouts at the gym too by using things like TRX, kettle bells, robes and boxes to jump on them and push/pull things across the floor. A lot of modern gyms are into that kinda stuff lately (BritFit, CrossFit, Insanity, Tabata training etc) my gym has a special floor for it. Going in there is like going to play with my primeval mates... Back in the cave! The workouts are fun if you are new and starting with that much weight to lose!

It's day3 for me and it's so much easier than I anticipated as I tend to have low blood sugar and get very hypoglycemic with bad symptoms... For a while I believed I was diabetic (doctors running all types of tests)! Anyway, I've only been having very small amounts of mixed nuts and one very small apple a day. Today I've had next to nothing and feeling pretty well. I went to the gym on day2&3 and I was shocked at how much energy I had... I actually enjoyed training on an empty stomach.

I've stayed clear of all kinds of supplements including protein shakes. Stage 1 is fun. I haven't had much junk food but I've been eating large amounts of normal food including gluten free bread and brown rice... I feel I have been over eating because I get cramps... Still yet to workout portion sizes and learn to stop, not listen to my cravings... Tonight I am, however, going to order in some junk as it's important to get it out of my system... Look forward to it and I feel that, this will be the meal to break me. I will not look at junk food the same way again after tonight! I've since noticed that after eating something bad, I straight up want to throw up... It has to be done.

When I start stage 2 I wanna be super healthy and super fit! Reason I'm not junking stage1 out so much is that I was already on a cleanse for a week prior to this. So I've already tried to rid my body off bad foods and cravings... I'm super excited and cannot wait to be clean and regain mental and physical power... My life is ready for a good change! I want to be like Nicki in 3yrs time and say hey, I've stuck with it and I am better for it! I'm in it to win it! Goodbye flab/fat/illnesses!
