Just read this^. It's not very detailed but drives my mind round the bend about wishing to be there when these things first happened. Imagine being the one first humanoid to get that first spark, great stuff!

Fire could be the single most important thing we ever found how to use, couldn't it? With fire we could cook food which would lead to fewer calories being used to break food down and thus, over generations, that saved energy could go into brain development and thinking! We could settle down 'round a fire and socialise. We could manipulate land by burning forested areas and creating clearings. We could hunt differently. We could protect ourselves more effectively.

What do you think their first hot meal was?
