I honestly can't recall how I found this website -- it had something to do with looking up diet plans, I know this for sure.  Perhaps I was searching for "low carb" diet plans.  I came back to my profile on sparkpeople.com after 4 years of having ignored it, and I balked at the amount of carbs they want me to eat -- roughly 60%.  I am by no means an expert in nutrition and health fields, but I do know that I do not want to be stuffing myself silly with carbs like that!

I'm 29 (as of February 5th), and the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back was last Saturday.  I perform with a Rocky Horror Picture Show cast (as Frank) and my Rocky basically told me I was too heavy to lift (at the end of the movie, when Rif kills FranknFurter, for those that haven't seen the movie/show).

I'm 169 pounds and I stand five feet and three inches tall.  This eating habit change (I very much dislike the word "diet") looks quite interesting, and I hope to learn more about it from reading posts here in this forum and around the web as well.  I've never been one much to diet, but I've also never been one much for exercising, either.

Anyhoo.  I guess you can say this is my "introductory" post, as I see no where else to say this.

So, yes.  Hello.

Hello!   Grin welcome to the tribe!

Rocky Horror is particularly amazing, so I find it fantastic you're part of a cast for it. Haha.

Thanks so much for the welcome!

I've download a few different books (to my nook...Sheesh, what would I do without technology??), in particular The Paleo Diet by Dr. Cordain, which I have been reading while at work these last two days.  I haven't read through it in its entirety yet, but I tend to read a bit more slowly when I'm reading on an electronic device versus a real book.  That also seems interesting, though I do note that he advocates eating a lot more meat/protein than other Paleo types of diets I've seen elsewhere on the web...Or am I wrong in this assumption?

Yeah, I know right  Roll Eyes  Getting leaner would do better for the role (for me) anyways.  I'd love to have the skinny body if only for the role as Frank.  But the curves as a female TOTALLY get in the way...lol

"don't dream it, be it"
I am a BIG Rocky geek, in highschool I would go to every show... I think i've been an upwards of 50 times now...   Cool

I found this diet much the same way, tired of all the grains, wanted something low carb. Grains had always made me very bloaty and I wanted a way to get them out of my life for good. even before I went fully paleo I gathered a arsenal of grain-free meal plans. I felt relieved when I found this website   Grin

Well sorry for such a long time in between replies.

So I read two different books concerning the Paleo diet -- mainly The Paleo Solution by Robb Wolf and The Paleo Diet by Loren Cordain, along with numerous websites and blogs online.  The "diet" I am following is sort of what is set down in those two books, not what is recommended here on this website.  I can't say I am adhering completely to this way of eating, as I am still drinking Diet Coke (but with h20 and iced teas as well), and once a week will pig out on pizza (resistance is futile; husband has his Pathfinder game that day and they ALWAYS get pizza).  However the nice part is that while my husband will not completely go Paleo, he has also cut way down on carbs, including rice, bread, pizza, etc.  He also is still of the mind-set that most all fats are bad and shouldn't be consumed.

All that being said I've lost a solid 5 pounds in the week and a half I've started eating this way.  I went from weighing in between 170/171 pounds (my scale only weighs at the pound mark or half pound mark...) down to 163.5 pounds (as of two days ago).  This morning I was 165...But then again, I had pizza last night!

Water weight or fat, it makes no difference to me at this point.  What I see is progress and that it works, and that's all that matters to me.  Me and my husband also joined a gym, though I must admit we have only gone a handful of times so far.  I have used our treadmill mostly every day for at least 30 minutes.  I would rather do weight training at the gym and leave the cardio for at home....Ugh, I hate cardio XD

I have a treadmill too but I feel like a rat on a wheel when I'm on it so I try to just get in long walks at work. I walk during breaks and my lunch hour. It's fun to get out and see the sights and I forget I'm doing cardio  Grin

Glad it's working for you. I think there's as many versions of the Paleo diet as there are Paleo eaters sometimes.
