I've been on the diet for 19 days now and have been shedding about 1 lb per day.  I am extremely obese.  Is this healthy and will I plateau when I hit stage 2?

I picked 2lbs but i think between 2-5lbs a week is a healthy weight loss to maintain overtime.

People who are very obese can lose a 10lbs per week without it being unhealthy, especially if you're getting the right balance of nutrients and and fats.

Sounds like fantastic progress to me. I don't know if you'll plateau on stage 2 - you might continue at the present rate, increase or decrease. If you decrease and you're not happy with that, just go back to stage 1 - if it's working, don't change it. You don't have to follow the stages strictly - if stage 1 is working well for you and you're managing without getting too hungry, stay on it. Stage 2 will be much harder, but you may lose more weight doing it.

i guess what I'm trying to say is give it a go - if it doesn't work, go back to what was working.

Best of luck, and well done with those 19 days so far. You're changing your life!
