Okay, help!! I'm starting Stage 2 today and already the hunger bears in my belly are sharpening their claws. As I indulged quantity-wise in food over Christmas (though it was 99% paleo) I haven't been reducing my food intake to prepare myself for Stage 2. Anyone have any good tips to stop me devouring people, plants or animals during the day?

Try not to think about food so much. Find something to do out of the normal routine. Keep your hands/mind busy.
Sugar free gum helps a lot too. Along with lots of water. A cup or two of hot green tea helps tide me by.

Thank you! It's only the last hour that I've started to really notice it.
Tea and gum, here I come!

I've had the same problem but I am going though some terrible morning sickness and though I am very hungry, when I eat I throw up so I've been trying to find ways of getting my mind off the hunger. Water helps a lot!
I've always had qualms about the stages though (I never followed them, my main goal was gaining weight and eating healthy) I don't see a problem in eating "filler foods" during the fasting period (such as cucumbers & lettuce) but by doing so you arent being true to the diet. the purpose of the first 2 stages are to detox the body and allow the body to correct its processed food addiction. Cucumbers and lettuce are mostly water and have little to no nutritional value. I have read that many people that fast eat cucumbers and lettuce to help detox the body and keep the fatigue and hunger away.
thats just my insight on it, its not strict to the diet stages but I don't see a purpose in starving yourself to the point of insanity.

I agree with Sidhe. Matt Emery designed these stages as a way to help people incrementally transition from an unhealthy, modern diet to an instinctive/intuitive way of eating, based on the types of foods we're evolved to consume. There's nothing that says you "have to" go through the stages in order to eat a paleo-correct diet. Ultimately, you just want to eat the right amounts of the right foods. Listen to your body and stick to eating a grain/dairy/potato-free diet most of the time, and you'll do fine.

I am on day 2 of stage 2 WOW am I ever hungry.. I am drinking liquids and chewing gum but I found walking today hard because I am hungry I am hoping after a few days this will pass and I can make it until my evening meal. I might change and eat my meal in the morning then I will be home and hungry and not at work. I am going to see how it goes.... I think I just ate too much over the holidays and it makes it harder to fast!!!

Kenney- I hope that you don't starve yourself too much. You could do more damage than good if you allow yourself to become lethargic to the point of not being able to walk

If the "stages method" isn't working for you (i.e., if they're making it harder for you to learn how to eat paleo, rather than easier), then forget about the stages. Just eat the right stuff, only when you're actually hungry, and only to the point of "satisfaction," rather than "fullness." The rest is just details.

Hi guys I haven't been well the last week, which had benefits and drawbacks - I didn't eat for the first couple of days, which really shrank my stomach (yay) but then when I did regain my appetite I was stuck in the house surrounded by the remnants of Christmas indulgence! Boo. So I had chocolate... And bread...
Anyway, I'm now back on the diet but have skipped stage 2. I'm going straight to stage 3 now. I'm still losing weight and feeling much better and have forgotten what chocolate tastes like - in fact it made me feel worse last week, which is good, as it reduces temptation.
I might do a few days here and there of stage 2, but in all, I'm feeling healthy.
Good luck Kenney!
