Hi there
Day 5 of my new way of eating. I have kept to grazing during the day on fruit/nuts and enjoyed my feasts of curries pizzas and fish and chips in the evening. I started paleo to loose body fat and i intend to continue from now on but can i have a bit of help on the following.
I know everyone is different but some of my work colleagues have mentioned that if i want to loose fat i should not eat nuts and fruits throughout the day as they are high in calories. I normally just eat when my body tells me i am hungry. Maybe i am eating too much too regularly. Could i get some examples of what the members of this board consume to enable me to compare.

Thanks

I have no idea why your colleagues say fruit is high in calories...... the only exception i can think of is avacadoes. Nuts are high-ish in fats, but some fat is OK on this diet.

I eat 5 portions of fruit (and 5 of veg) every day,  a handful of sesame seeds and a handful of hazelnuts.

I also have 5 or 6 small meals a day rather than the usual breakfast lunch and dinner....... find what works for you and stick with that.

Good luck Smiley

Fruit can be high in calories and extremely high in sugar.

A cup of pineapple has 140 calories and 30g of sugar. A cup of sprite has 90 calories and 23g of sugar.

A can of lite pears has 220 calories and 49g of sugar. A can of Coke has 140 calories and 39g of sugar.

One cup dried apricots 380 calories. One hershey's special dark bar 180 calories.

You need to choose wisely when you pick your fruits.

Aha.... well yes fruit does contain FRUIT sugars, but an apple or banana are less than 100 calories.....so in that respect fruit is not un-healthy.

How are you finding this diet generally Jocky??

Fructose, glucose, and sucrose are all FRUIT sugars. In fact a Apple or Banana is 20% sucrose, with the banana having a 1:1 ratio of fructose to glucose. (The apple is 2:1)

Fructose also can only be metabolized by the liver, whereas glucose can be metabolized by every cell in the body. When fructose reaches the liver, it STOPS ALL OTHER FUNCTIONS to metabolize the sugar. In studies rats feed fructose have livers like an alcoholic, while the ones fed sucrose and glucose do not.

Hi Jocky, I tend to have 2 or 3 portions of fruit and 3 or 4 portions of veg a day. My favourite fruits are apples, pears and grapes.

I tend to have fruit and nuts, fruit and bacon, or occasionally fruit and chicken for breakfast, a fruit snack, a small salad, a nut snack and a main meal each day, and I've lost 19lbs so far.

At weekends I generally just eat twice, once at about 2pm and again at about 8pm. For some reason that works really well for me, but only at weekends, possibly because I'm more relaxed than at work...

Before you decide that your work colleagues are right, wait and see what actually happens. If you're losing weight, they're full of crap!  Cool
