Bought some beautiful looking beef hearts the other day, by the gods they were so beautiful!! Firm and a deep red color I find it funny how underestimated cuts such as the heart and organs go unnoticed when they are the parts that have the MOST flavor!! After picking up my lovely red gems I went to checkout, when the cashier rang them up he stared at them for a second and looked at me in a puzzled sort of way... He asked me what they tasted like and I shrugged and said "Like beef". Which is not a lie, they taste slightly more minerally than other cuts of meat but for the most part they taste the same. Not to mention a got a 1 pound cut for .86 cents!! Talk about a steal!! and all because most people find them "undesireable" to eat... This puzzles me. What makes them so undesireable? is it the thought of eating anything other than common steaks? or is it that people have lost their sense of food innovation? or is it a bit of both? do they fear that it will taste too gamey? or maybe they are afraid of the sheer awesomeness that is beef heart!! I'm sort of venting out my confusion ha ha. My point is that this stew I made from those beef hearts is the best thing thats ever passed through these lips!!

I have not eaten beef heart Well not to my knowledge that is. I am sure I have consumed it in some packaged food like a beefstick. I would like to try it now that you have made it sound so darn good. Could you share your recipe?

I have not eaten beef heart Well not to my knowledge that is. I am sure I have consumed it in some packaged food like a beefstick. I would like to try it now that you have made it sound so darn good. Could you share your recipe? Sure! By all means! Braised Beef Heart (serves 3) -1lbs beef heart (cut up in small pieces) -3 Tablespoons onion soup mix (processed I know but it adds alot of depth to the flavor, can be substituted with dried onion) -Beef Stock (to cover) -medium onion -celery -carrot -Garlic -2 tablespoons olive oil -Fresh cracked black pepper in a medium saucepan heat the oil and add the onion, celery, carrot and garlic to the pan, season with Pepper. Cooking until the celery and onion turn a translucent color, strirring occasionally. Add the beef heart and brown on all sides (leave the inside raw). Add the Beef stock and onion soup mix. Bring to a boil and reduce heat, letting simmer for 3-4 hours. I've had my best luck with 4 hours but depending on how you like it 3 should suffice. Its very simple yet very tasty!! I hope you enjoy

My local grocery store does not stock beef hearts. Have you been shopping in a specialty store? It is looking like I might have to find a local butcher to get some.

Beef heart and beef kidney reminds me of my childhood when every penny counted. I have found them delicious too, although I prefer beef heart.
I am wondering if it would be good ground up like hamburg. Have you tried to do that? I think I may try to do that. Your stew looks very good. My mother used to slice the hearts and pan fry them. This is delicious too.

I've grilled them and they are also very tasty that way! I havent tried ground beefheart for burgers yet, but I always think about it, I have to get a grinding maching for it. I think it'd be great but I think I'd have to add in come extra fat because burgers dont stay together if its all lean meat and no fat. Experimenting!!

any organ meat does your body good! Heart isnt an organ, it is a muscle but it has a slight minerally taste to it, similar to organ meats. its very plesant
