Hey guys.
I'm having a hard time dragging myself out of bed in the mornings, even after a solid 8 hours of sleep.
What can I do and what can I eat to feel energized and motivated?

The greatest single cause of atheism in the world today, is Christians who acknowledge Jesus with their lips then walk out the door and deny him by their lifestyle. That is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable.

get ample exercise throughout the day, stay away from grains and starches as they tend to make you feel sluggish. get enough sunshine, even if its just laying outside for 15-30 mins. kill two birds with one stone by exercising outside

Currently halfway through Stage 1. I start out with water in the morning, then usually an apple, then feast on chicken or some other meat, drinking water throughout the day. I have been running or biking almost every day, however shin splints are hindering that. I'm thinking a leisurely walk is all I'm up for tomorrow Is my food intake looking OK? Do I need more?

Sounds like you need to graze a little more on nuts, fruits, and veggies. Chickens OK but a steak for feast would be better for energy. Pick out one with lots of fat on it and enjoy. When you cook your veggies melt some butter on top, butter's like jet fuel for Paleo's. Also it does take the body a while to adjust from burning carbs for energy to burning fats... http://www.marksdailyapple.com/low-carb-flu/If I feel low on energy in the morning I enjoy a couple of bananas, along with 3 or 4 eggs scrambled in butter. PS Butter is not strictly Paleo but lots of Paleo's enjoy it with no health issues... http://www.marksdailyapple.com/grass-fed-butter/More good reading... http://huntgatherlove.com/content/8-ways-tell-if-someone-going-fall-paleo-bandwagon-big-time

Thanks!
I assume margarine is a whole lot different than butter?
Also, will grease drippings from bacon and the like work just as well?

I don't think too many Paleo's would approve of margarine. Olive oil and or butter are better for you and about all I cook with. A little bacon grease on top of cooked greens is great. I quit eating margarine about 10 years before I went Paleo. Some reading on the stuff... http://www.chelationtherapyonline.com/articles/p122.htm

If all you're eating every day is an apple and some meat, then it sounds like you're just not eating enough calories.....especially if you're biking which uses up a fair bit of energy.
I would graze on some nuts and berries during the day, or some carrot sticks and celery if you like them
