Hello
It's now been proven - a diet high in processed fats, sugar and carbs fed to children below the age of three corresponds to a 5 point drop in their IQ at the age of 8.

I heard about this on the radio this morning. It's a tad disturbing to think millions of mums across the world will be feeding their children in a way that may effect their future. I know over the past few years the government(s) have stepped up their efforts to educate people through media ....and various campaigns, but more surely needs to be done. It truly gets you thinking about all the crap they do put in processed foods, especially if they can have this effect.   Sad

So glad that I'm going to be making my own baby food and that I am so strict about having junk food in the house. My kids will only see junk on occasions, and probably if they go over to grandma's house *sigh* trying to tell my mother not to feed my kids junk will be like telling a rock to move...  Roll Eyes

that is a very scary statistic though!!

Hi Sidhe

Perhaps showing your mom a copy of the statistics and laying down some very firm ground rules would help? Good luck!!

The foods itself should contain the proper vitamins and minerals in them without being formed in the form of a pill, especially when you start eating whole unprocessed foods like fruits, vegetables, steel-cut oats, brown rice, beans, and etc...

Although in the case of pale-people, no oats, brown rice, beans etc!  Cool

I don't think Monkey quite understands the paleo lifestyle.

It is true that, if a person is going to eat non-paleo foods, some are healthier than others (i.e., brown rice is healthier than refined wheat flour).  However, it is also true that considerable evidence suggests that a strictly paleo diet is the healthiest way for all humans to eat.

That said, I also advocate that people find the balance that works for them.  If you can follow a paleo diet strictly, you will enjoy the greatest benefits.  If not, eating "more paleo" is better than eating "less paleo," and certainly better than simply resigning oneself to a lifetime of consuming a modern, Western diet.

no, i understand it.

yet you post non paleo-friendly propaganda on a paleo diet site?  Doesn't that seem kind of rude/trollish to you?   Huh

its one thing to have an opinion but its another thing to come on a site and spam it with backlash and negative propaganda regarding the contents of the site.  Its also one thing to have a sound debate but when you completly disregard the facts that others are presenting you just in fear of being deemed "wrong" it comes off as very desperate.

my only question to you Monkey is why are you on here if you do not support a paleo-diet lifestyle?

Hi Sidhe

Perhaps showing your mom a copy of the statistics and laying down some very firm ground rules would help? Good luck!!

I've tried  Roll Eyes that woman is a brick wall I swear. If I give her pre-made meals to serve them she would probably say "my food is better for the soul" and proceed to feeding them mac and cheese topped with croutons.  Hahaha she is going to be a piece of work, but hopefully one day I will get through to her. She knows how uber health nut I am, and she also knows that I forbid soda unless its on special occasions and she is ok with that because she isnt too fond of soda either (but not for the same reasons as I am) so we agree on one thing atleast  Grin
