Hi all, im new to the forum and i appreciate you must get asked this alot but please bear with me. With so much advice on the the net im not sure whats right and whats wrong for me?

Im 26 and 5'9 i weigh 11 stone, i have a skinny frame, however the past 2 years ive had a life of playstaion, curry and beer! so before i knew it the man boobs popped out,i grew a second chin and a pot belly arrived. Dont get me wrong im not fat, just out of shape. ive decided to stop wallowing in myself and do something about it. I would like to loose some weight but my aim is to tone up and become lean. I hate gyms, so would like to do it from home, i have fields all around me and would like to run over them. Im fine with that side of things as ive just started the nike plus program with the wrist band. starts you off with walking then build you up to running.

Where i have a problem is toning up, can anyone please suggest a good beginners work out for me to do at home? mainly core and back, but also arms, chest and shoulders? if you could help me then that would be great.

Thanks for reading. hope you can help.

I'm a big advocate of bodyweight exercises.  Press-ups, chin-ups, bodyweight squats/ lunges, sit-ups, etc., can make you tremendously muscular and functionally powerful.

Here's an old thread regarding a "deck of cards" workout.  Everyone's mileage varies, but this is a great way to create an effective and completely customizable workout...

Tony is right if you just want to slim down and just tone up, body weight exercises are great. Deck o cards is Brutal, another good burner like that is "the clock" its essentially a pyramid you start at 1 rep Push ups & Sit ups, then 2 reps then, 3, 4, so on and so forth till you get to twelve. You can start by just doing one set, then you can do 2 once you get better at it, and once you are smoking that and you want to really challenge your self go to military time as in 12, 13, 14, 15, until you are reach 24.

If you alternate between that and your cardio every other day, should be a good starting point. let me know how it goes and if you need some more good work outs.

Did my first Deck o cards workout this morning - awesome! I really loved not knowing what was coming next, really kept the interest level high. Of course, when you a 6 of clubs followed by a 7 of clubs there's a moment of "oh god, push ups AGAIN?" but that's all part of the fun.

I only did a 10-card workout as I didn't have a lot of time, but really enjoyed it. I'm going to do a few different sets of exercises for the cards, so I can really mix it up - a strength one, a cardio one, a flexibility one...

Such a great idea!

Thanks, Tony
