An hour drive from my hometown:: I spent 8 hours in a remote area of North Carolina, picking up fallen trees and clearing an area for the year's Place of Power. I made a small area, cleared it of all debris and lined it with the fallen trees and rotting logs that I collected from the forest. In the center I dug a small hole and lined it with pebbles, My fire pit was my greatest accomplishment that day.
This was to be my Place of Power, my spiritual area where I could escape and reflect upon myself and become more harmonious with my earthly mother. The rich smell of dirt relaxing me, the fallen pine needles releasing their intoxicating scent as I crushed them beneath my feet, everything about the forest makes me feel so at ease with the world and with myself.
Each year I build one, a new location, a numbing 8 hour or more trial of strength... To motivate me and prove my dedication.
This is my escape from the city life in which I live, that makes it all the more precious. Devoid of all material objects, just me and my wits. I have dremt my most inspiring dreams in these Places of Power, come to some hard conclusions and even confessed love at one point.
I just wanted to share my story, and maybe lead others to find their Place of Power.

I know I'm a bit late on this thread but oh well . Their is this small wooded area in my town surround by suburbanization, an oasis (to me anyways). I always used to go there when I was younger still do go there just not as often. I find if i go there when I'm angry or bothered or just need to get away it always makes things better. The place almost seems magic to me I don't know if its the memories it holds or just because its nature and a place of solitude. I haven't been able to go there in almost 2 years because I'm currently living overseas and its one of the things i miss the most. It always seemed to empower me. Even when they tried to stop letting people go into it but putting up fences at the trails entrances (obviously people cant climb a fence or climb through the bushes next to it). I heard through the grapevine they might try to turn it into a housing development soon though. If that happens i will do whatever it takes to stop them.

I havent made a place of power this year, though I have been going fishing quite regularly inorder to clear my mind (and not to mention get some dinner haha). but it has been a very relaxing experience for me, nice tan, good food, clear mind... feeling the grains of sand tickle the bottom of my feet. I feel very raw and natural when I am on the beach. very soothing. thank you for sharing your story!

I am hoping to move to a higher wooded area within the next year or so, of course I dont exactly have time to go on a long hike (duty calls I guess) but the times I have done it I have felt completely exhilarated.

I am craving to find a spot to harmonise myself with nature through meditation and other activities. I will keep you posted as I believe that finding myself in harmony is my next hurdle I need to overcome

Thats really unfortunate Alex if only life was like Fern Gulley, then maybe we could stop this with our mystical faery powers :p but on a more serious note, i dont understand why humans feel a need to tear down acres of trees to build and "expand" when there are plenty of empty lots in every city that can be used to "expand". My city is especially bad about this...

i understand that the seelie (or sidhe, call them what you will) are very mischievous beings. i was preluding to the americanized fae in the cartoon fern gulley. mind you that the fae of celtic lore are baby snatchers and quite frankly i'd just rather not deal with them. I take it you paid no attention to my screen name? I know a good deal about the fae, a bit too much for me not being of irish descent.

He's the scariest of the lot. My favourite has always been the black dogs, because they're the easiest way to tell if you're near a magical part of Ireland.

My favourite has always been the black dogs, because they're the easiest way to tell if you're near a magical part of Ireland. before my great grandmother died (she was Irish and english mixed) a black dog came to me in my dreams. the moment my grandmother died i heard a whistle and the dog ran off. next morning i found out that she had died at the exact time the whistle was blown. scared me, but i was so excited with all of it, I was only 6 at the time but I remember it so well. very enlightening experience. from what I have heard about them they are omens that foretell death in the family, and who ever sees the dogs when they die another member will see them. none the less, that moment was the moment I started traveling down this spiritual path that I am on today.

That reminds me of a dream I once had, where I challenged a black dog to a fight and it couldn't hurt me. It bit me, but there was no blood and no pain. If the black dog fortells death then perhaps I'm immortal.
