I know beans are a no-no what about Edamame? I'm in phase 2 and looking to expand the menu for my evening feast.

Although beans are off the list in terms of the types of food that were available to paleolithic man, if you're going to stray a bit, I'd say beans are one of the best foods to stray with.  Keep in mind that legumes do, in fact, contain a mild toxin, but that this is completely neutralized by cooking or canning the fresh legume, or by soaking the dried legume overnight.  If prepared in this fashion, beans (in moderation, of course) can be a good and inexpensive way to add a bit of protein and a good amount of fiber to your diet.  Just don't overdo it... think of it more as a way to occassionally change things up once in a while.

I don't know enough about edamame as compared to other legumes to comment in that regard, although I do caution people away from soy and soy products, as it has an estrogenic effect on the body and can wreak hormonal hell on the human physiology.

I eat edamamme on occasion but not often enough to really worry. They are soy beans and soy is off limits for a strict paleo diet.
