Hello all,

I have been really getting into caveman style workouts lately and the magazine Fitness RX for Men in the US came out with a really great article. Basically the workouts are 5 full body functional movements with an intense cardio interval at the end. After the workout you would walk briskly or jog very slowly for 30 to 60 minutes. An example is as follows: Pushups, Standing Long Jumps, Kettlebell Snatches, Bodyweight Squats Mountain Climbers and 2 minutes of sprinting on a bicycle or around your block or whatever. You would complete the circuit three times. The article says to complete workouts like this 3 to 5 times a week. I fell in love with these workouts and mix in some extra exercises like sandbag clean and press, medicine ball slams, DB complexes and things like that. I have been doing these type of workouts 3 days on and 1 day off with the off day consisting of a long session of low intensity cardio such as a long walk, jog or bike ride. My question is, does this seem to frequent? Every "guru" says Monday Wednesday and Friday is when you should train like that! But why? I would imagine cavemen lived intensely most days of the week and moved their bodies everyday. Not to mention people today with really intense physical jobs like lumberjacks, foundry workers, mechanics and even landscapers. Why is the 3 day a week thing written in stone? My goal is to lose weight and size and have kick ass endurance, not to gain size.. Does anyone else agree?   Huh

I'm sure cavemen didn't do "exercise" on set days of the week!!..... go with your instincts, and see what works for you!

Most "guru's" suggest Monday, Wednesday, and Friday to put a day break in between your workouts, and have the weekend to rest.  Because of those who work Monday-Friday, most people don't have the motivation to do a whole lot of 'endurance' activities during the weekend.  It's mainly a suggestion.  I usually work my excercise schedule around my off days.

As Nicki says .Do as your body tells you. It will let you know if it is too much.

I personally veg at weekends as My job is very physical. Although playing with the kids is kind of a workout I suppose.

Good luck with your goals.

I can say from experience that working and moving your body every day is only good to a certain point. Ask anyone who has served in any military how their joint feel.

Coma-

I was a Marine 0331 for six years. For the past 10 years I have been a police officer and for the past 5 a SWAT operator. I know plenty about sore joints! Because of this I think it important to move frequently. Someones life may be at stake if I am lousy shape.

Thanks for your service. My nephew was 2/3 Marine in Afghanistan, you might get a kick out of this tribute video one of their guys made.

Check out the angle of the mortar fired at 3 minute mark, damn.

Hey Guys,

I cant claim military service but I do relate to the attitude that regardless of your sore joints I have found that resting them is not good and mine cease up and my mobility decreases. Unless it is a new injury then babying it along works for me.
