Just wondering if anyone knows of any other natural medicines or hygeine aids that are derived from 'primitive' means.

Spaghnum Moss- Antiseptic and can absorb a lot of fluid. Used like a dressing.
Willow Bark- Contains the same active ingredient as Aspirin.
Soapwort- Get it wet and crush it, it works like soap.
Horse Chestnut leaves- Boil them in water and can be used as a soap/ antiseptic solution although Soapwort is better.
Chickweed- Same as Horse Chestnut leaves although not as good.
Birch Bark- When soaked in water and then placed aroubd a splinted limb it can be used as a rudimentary plaster.
Aloe Vera- Good for numerous skin complaints including eczema.
Bindweed- A purgative only to be used by EXPERIENCED herbalists!!!
Echinacea- Good for the immune system.
St. Johns Wort- Good fo the immune system also.

Lots of other too many to type.

Just a start please feel free to add to the list.

here is another one, although it is not medicinal (as far as I know!)
birch-sap
carve a hole in the birch tree and let the tree sap drip in a canteen (or something else)
then drink the sap
it is very good and tasts sweet

note: dont take more then one litre a day (don't kill that tree!)
when you are done take a branch and press it firmly in the hole so the tree will not bleed to death and the next day, just come back and remove that branch and have some more sap

That is a good way of getting sugar in a survival situation. Makes a good syrup and can be made into sugar cakes. Can also be made into an outstanding wine. Wink

St. Johns Wort- Good fo the immune system also.

St. Johns Wort is also good for depression. However, if you are female and on any kind of hormonal birth control (the pill, injections, implants, etc.) then you should avoid it as it can reduce the effectiveness of the birth control.

Just thought I aught to warn you all - don't want any little surprises! Grin

If you suspect that statement to be true, then you'll probably want to know why it could be true. Well, this is what I have devoted my life to finding out, and I want to share with you everything i've learnt, as well as learn from you!
