 Cheesy

Hello I have been reading about the caveman diet and I am very interested in trying this. However I am exclusively  breastfeeding my 7 month old and I was wondering if it is possible to do this diet and still continue to breastfeed? I would also like to know if it is safe and healthy for obese people to take part in this diet?

Hi Woodrabbit,

First of all, congratulations on choosing to breastfeed your baby... s/he will thank you for it   Cool

This way of eating is perfectly compatible with breastfeeding.  It centers around feeding yourself the same types of foods for which the human body has evolved over the eons, and up until a generation or two ago, ALL babies were breastfed.  Just make sure you're getting a good variety of fish, meat, poultry, nuts, seeds, fruits, and vegetables.  Make sure you're including plenty of green leafy veggies for calcium, especially if you choose to cut out dairy foods (note that some "modern cavepeople" still consume some dairy, if their bodies tolerate it well).  A good multi-vitamin, fish oil supplement, and extra vitamin D won't hurt, either.

This is also an ideal way of eating for people of any weight who wish to become healthier.  People who are obese often enjoy the most dramatic results from changing over to this lifestyle.  Check this link for examples and inspiration:

Hi

Thank you for your reply my sister and I are starting the new lifestyle change tomorrow. We went to the bookstore to get the books that were on the link you gave me, but we only found Make it Paleo by Mark Sission and the Paleo Diet and the Paleo Diet Cookbook by Loren Cordain Phd. Do you have any opinions on these books?

I would just say that fasting during the day might not give you your best milk supply, so I would jump straight in at stage 3.....eat the right foods at regular intervals during the day. I myself have 5 or 6 small meals a day, and it suits me great Smiley

Just make sure too you're getting a good selection of nutrients ie iron and calcium and vitamins and minerals..... a suppliment will help you if you're not sure

Enjoy this "diet"... you'll feel so much better on it Smiley

I am on this diet and I have been breastfeeding my 3month old, I plan on staying the BFing course for atleast 6 months though I am aiming for longer. Its very doable!!  Smiley

my pediatrician said that man-cub should be taking a vitamin D supplement regardless, just because he is breastfeeding. Its called Poly something... I don't have it with me at the moment.
