I am starting this tomorrow, and I have been already drinking quite a lot of water. I do have a question about other beverages, are we allowed anything like black coffee or iced tea?

I think everybody drinks tea, some of us drink a little coffee. Hard part for some is having them without the sugar. After a while you get use to it thou.
I drink about 2 hot green teas a day and a cup of coffee in the morning.

Alcohol should only be an occasional treat...... there's a bit of debate over what is the best choice of alcohol for the paleo lifestyle. In my opinion the right order is spirits----->wine------>beer.

Ah thank you. Thats ok then, I don't drink a lot anyway, but I always drink spirits. They were the ones with less points when I tried weightwatchers last year.

Alex for stage one i guess a soda now and then is OK, but really by stage 2 they need to be gone.....diet sodas may not contain sugar but they have artificial sweetners, and other nasty gubbins , so best avoided :/

Moderation, I love beer but I keep it down to no more than a six pack a month. I guess there's the light beers, even a low carb beers now. Problem is my weakness is good dark heavy beers. If it's light beer or none at all, I'll drink none at all. I'm at the weight I want now thou. When I was working hard to lose weight I drank almost no beers, maybe one a month.

Honey is still sugar, if your trying to lose weight drop all sugar. Oats and wheat are grains, Paleos don't eat grains. Protein shakes are processed foods, Paleos avoid processed foods as much as possible. what about using honey as a suplement for sugar. i have question about oats as well and wheat germ and protein shakes. i just started this cavman diet and have pretty much only been drinking water and snackin' on fruits and was wonderin what my options were as far as tea goes. im from alabama sweet tea's hard to give up

Any tea is OK is good for you, some studies point to more benefits from green tea. Sugar is the killer.
Try a little fresh lemon juice in your tea till you adjust.

Yahoo on the wine! Good for the heart too, red that is. White wine gives me an instant headache and terrible heartburn. Interesting to think about it though. Red wines retains the skin of the grape. It is unnatural then to drink skinless white wine, yes? Beer, probably the best because you get full so quickly, at least I do. Two and I'm bloated and very annoyed.

To ween off of soda - we will take 100% fruit juices and/or coconut water and mix it with seltzer water. It sounds funny - but it really works, trust me. We used to go through tons of Mountain Dew and Pepsi a week. They say if you are trying to lose weight, go easy on the fruit juice - however, this is a great transition from soda to water. We'd have the occasional "fake soda" in Phase 1 at night during dinner. It is extremely refreshing and you prefer that than soda. In fact, I tried to drink Pepsi with dinner the other day and it was unsuccessful. I didn't like it. yay! My favorite would be Pineapple, a little bit of cranberry and seltzer or just orange juice and seltzer. I highly recommend it if you are a soda addict
