Hey guys,
I've been away from the forum for quite some time now. I just finished my second college journey (this time in the field of nursing), have passed my state board exam, and am now a registered nurse working at a rural hospital. I've also begun teaching martial arts and Qigong at a new local gym, and have been busy just trying to keep up with the activities of my four kids.
I'd like to extend a HUGE thanks to those of you who have become such active members of this little online community over the past few months... you know who you are. As a moderator, it can sometimes be difficult to just keep up with the tasks of answering questions and welcoming newcomers, and I am grateful to the solid handful of you who have done so while life recently kept me otherwise occupied.
Of course, this doesn't mean you're "off the hook" now that I'm back... keep up the great work, guys and gals! Like Matt told me when he asked me to serve as a moderator here, this is YOUR forum, YOUR community. I have learned a great deal from the wisdom you've all shared here, and thank you for that as well.

I'm sure you will find the education and career rewarding... medicine is about the closest thing there is to a "recession-proof" field these days!
I'm not going back to school... I just finished my second trip through college. I graduated from a state university in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Promotion and Wellness. After working for a local health department for three years (heading up a five-county obesity prevention project), my grant funding expired, and I found myself with no job to support myself, my wife, and our four kids. Having worked previously as a nursing assistant, I decided to go back to school to become a registered nurse. Well, it's been two long years since then, but here I am. I just started working at a local hospital on the med-surg floor, and will be trained into the Intensive Care Unit at the end of the year. To top it all off, a new gym just opened up, and I'm teaching martial arts and Qigong there a few days a week... Busy, busy!

Having worked previously as a nursing assistant, I decided to go back to school to become a registered nurse. I was going to get my RN liscense along the road of pursuing Surgical Technician, that way I have a stable medical background.

That's a lot of school. I can honestly say that my two years of nursing school required at least as much work as the 4+ university years it took to get my previous Bachelor's. If you're up for it though, more power to ya!
