The theory:
Modern society functions (in many ways) in direct opposition to our human biological make-up.  And I suspect that to be the reason why men and women are being sociologically redefined in ways that leaves us somewhat... baffled.

Additionally; gender roles are becoming increasingly unclear and relationships more complicated, due to the afore mentioned incongruencies.

We live in a society where women are at a biological advantage, they are excellent gatherers (shoppers) and nurturers (human relationships).  Hence, they excel in modern society and ultimately inherit more responsibilities.

On the other hand... the biological competencies of males are required less frequently.  No longer is it a survival imperative for males to hunt bears and protect a tribe from wild animals -  and those skills are diminishing exponentially due to our sociological ecosystem.

Clearly, this is a problem - and it's not getting any better.

How do we fix it?
We acknowledge our biological make-up.... which ironically, is extremely difficult to accomplish, considering the socialisation we all encounter whilst growing up - but there is a way.  If we look at wild birds, or bears in the woods, or even fish in a river, we can see that they are being true to their biology.  They act in accordance to their physiological design.  Do humans act in accordance to their physiological design?  I think not.

Meditate on this for a while and you'll begin to get some stunning insights about yourself.

I will say with vehement belief that man in fact DOES act in accordance with its physiological design.

The most distinguishing characteristic of human beings, is the ability to adapt. We are able to adapt to any climate, condition, or circumstance given time. If the men in the tribe are killed or sick, the women would have to take it upon themselves to do the hunting or defence, otherwise the tribe dies. This is much like the need to adapt in modern society that has blurred traditional roles. Humans are an AMAZINGLY succeseful species, biologically speaking, because of this ability to adapt.

Unfortunately, adaptation is not always a sign of intelligence. We often spread and use up our environment much like a virus or a bacterium. We have to use another gift of our biology and THINK. We can see the effects of our actions, but few are doing anything about it.

Tribal man noticed when the fire moutain got angry and he moved on.  He noticed that large paw prints in the mud ment vanishing children, so he lit fires and sharpened sticks. When certain berries made him sick, he didn't eat them. This abiltity to adapt kept him alive only because he didn't ignore the problem.

Exactly.

But I don't think we are complimenting our physiology.  If modern medicine wasn't around, I believe we would be inferior to Palaeolithic humans in regards to survivability.  And additionally, we (humans) are evolving (at least behaviourally) in a way that requires huge amounts of resources as a crutch for our survival.

I completely agree, most people are not fit to live if the power ever goes out.

I think thats behavioural, not biological though. When man is more concerned with material growth then survival he becomes mentally weak. I see kids in America and Europe break down when they dont get the new toy they want, but I've also seen 13yr old boys pick up an assault rifle after their father has been killed and carry on the fight while I was in some more "backwards" places. It's a stark reminder that the "barbarians" always throw down the empire once it becomes decadent.

Tyler Durden was right.

When the Romans first started to call people barbarians, all it meant was that they did speak the roman language and did not live in the roman empire. However over time the word barbarian became a word of savage and crude people. I believe this happened because of man's natural fear of the unknown. We did not understand the barbarians so we said that they were savages and dumb. The same thing happened when the Europeans explored Africa. They thought the natives were dumb and had no culture. Today, after studying tribes such as the bush men, we see that they are in fact very intelligent, and that their medicine, especially in places like the rain forests in South America, rivals western medicine. Western thinking likes us to think that we are the more intelligent people, but in fact the natives are the people who live the healthiest and probably happiest lives. So i think the natives are far Superior to western culture because the natives are the most true to their biology.
