I'm starting Stage 1 tomorrow (Monday). I like the idea of this lifestyle because I am a very, very busy law student. I don't have the time or brain power to come up with three healthy meals a day. So, only having to think about what to eat once a day sounds like a great idea! Also, when I tried Weight Watchers and other plans, I did great during the day but then I lost all willpower at night.

So, here we go...I'm going to try to post on here to keep myself accountable. I have about 60 pounds to lose, so we'll see what happens.

it isnt one meal a day for the entire duration of the lifestyle. its only during the first and second stage of the lifestyle. those are the fasting stages.  eating one meal a day for an extended period of time may be a bit difficult to achieve. I don't know many who can do it. best of luck to you!!

When you get to stage 3 you can eat during the day too. The key to sucess is planning ahead. Dont have anything in the house if you're not supposed to eat it. That way you shouldn't fall off the band wagon. There are things you can take to work with you that you can get ready really  quickly into a lunch box in the mornings...... pieces of ham/cooked meats/boiled egg/ salad/ carrot or celery sticks....... you can also have a bit of mayonnaise as it's just made with oil and egg.

Keep us up to date with how you're getting on...... good luck Smiley

Thanks for the advice! Yeah, I know that you can eat during the day when you get to Stage 3, but I'm not thinking that far ahead yet. One stage at a time.

So, first day:
I got up, made a pot of coffee - without the coffee - drank my hot water.
I took two handfuls of unsalted cashews and 6 clementines with me to school.
I only felt like eating half the cashews and 3 of the clementines, so that's what I grazed on.
I've had a massive headache all day, but I think that's more from allergies.
I "feasted" on chicken strips, french fries, and a McFlurry. And now I feel kind of gross. It's like there's a coating or film on my throat. Nasty.

Day 2, massive, massive headache continues. But it went away last night for a few hours after I had a real Coke and it's starting to go away tonight after I had a real Dr. Pepper with my feast. So, I think it's caffeine withdrawal.

What can I drink to help with this? I was already drinking only caffeine free diet Cokes and 25% caffeinated coffee so I didn't think the caffeine withdrawal would be this bad.

caffeine is used in Excedrin pills to help headaches, it probably isnt a caffeine withdraw if you were already drinking caffeine free drinks and a low caffeine coffee. Headaches are normal during this stage of the diet, try drinking a tall glass of water, sometimes headaches are a sign of dehydration.  if you feel like you need some caffeine then sip some tea rather than soda  Smiley

Hot tea helps me when I get a "unknown"  headache any should be good, my favorites are green, oolong, and earl grey. Or a cool washcloth on my forehead and low light for a real bad headache. Hope this is useful.

Ho bora, and welcome to the tribe!
Sounds to me like your headache is due to detoxing your body - I had already given up caffeine and most sugars before I started this lifestyle, yet I still got headaches for the first five days or so. I put it down to withdrawal symptoms from junk food!
It should definitely go away. It may also be your body adjusting to a low-sugar, low-carb diet. It will take a week or so to flip into full-on fat-burning mode.
Grit your teeth and get through the first week and you should be feeling fabulous after that!

If you want the caffeine head aches to go, then don't drink any more caffeine. Yes having a tea or soda  will get rid of the head- ache temperarily, but you'll just keep going round in circles. Just stop altogether, and have plenty of water....... if it's really bad some paracetamol won't kill you Smiley

What is paracetamol, Nicki? So, the headache has significantly diminished. I haven't had any caffeine since sweet tea at my feast yesterday. I'm drinking lots of water, eating berries, clementines, and nuts and then the feast. But, I get hungry for the feast at mid-day and then I'm not hungry for the rest of the day, so that's what I'm doing. It's not as big a deal to change to this kind of eating as I had expected. So far so good.

Ah sorry..... i live in the UK so I'm guessing you don't!!... paracetamol is just a basic headache/pain relief tablet you can buy without a prescription.

Sounds like you're doing really well so far Smiley

Pride goeth before a fall off the wagon. I have been craving a Dairy Queen Blizzard (ice cream thing) since Sunday, but each day I couldn't work it out to get to eat one in my feast. Then today, a classmate invited me to lunch, so I had my feast then. I was going strong until about an hour ago. So, I choose to go ahead and eat my ice cream and get back on the wagon afterwards. It was delicious. What happens if I never get sick of junk food and just stay on stage 1 forever?

Nicki, I've always wanted to ask a UK person a couple of questions:
In the Hercule Poirot books, Poirot was always growing "vegetable marrows." A few years ago, I bought a "Comfort Food" cookbook that was actually a British comfort food cookbook. It was fascinating. A couple of the recipes called for "marrows" and "aubergines."
My questions are:
1. What is a vegetable marrow?
2. What is an aubergine?
And, no, I'm not in the UK, I'm in Texas.

YOu may not get sick of eating junk food, but you'll probably get fed up with feeling tired/bloated/generally rubbish......also you'll be fed up with being overweight if it causes any breathlesness, knee or back pains.

At some point you'll decide to eat healthier.....it happens sooner or later for different people, so carry on as you are for now.

Now then..... marrows are a kind of vegetable..... not sure what you call them in the US.... you could go into google images and type in marrow and see if you recognise it. I think you call an aubergine an eggplant.

Keep up the good work Smiley

I started Stage 1 two days ago and had a fierce headache too. I'd attributed it to other things but i think now it was the diet. Either way, i found upping my water intake took care of the problem.
Keep strong!
