I will be 54 in 3 weeks time. I am about 10 stones over weight and have a real problem with my weight. Am I too old and over weight to do the caveman diet?

I'm sure this won't set any records with the populace of this forum but here's my story. Year and a half ago. 65 years of age. Forty pounds overweight. Lost 40 lbs in 6 months doing strict Atkins (didn't know about any caveman/paleo/lc diets then). Regained three pounds since then because of a very indolent vacation.
Currently: 66 years old, 5' 11", 175 lbs.; bp = 115/67 with 67 heart rate. Since Atkins, I'm doing VLC and Fast5 (IF) since the original weight loss. Currently employed full time on a 3-11 shift therefore my eating window is 11:30 pm to 4:30 am. Sleep is 4:30 to 12:30. 'Maintaining my weight with plenty of energy to spare.
In short, I don't think one could ever be too old to make beneficial changes in one's life.

That has really given me a huge boost. I did do the Atkins diet but found it too hard going. I love meat but not to that extreme. Another "problem" I have is that I grow all my own veg and have a large crop of Runner beans and Potatoes to eat. Oh well, I can give the potatoes away but will be sorry to give away my beans and peas as I love eating them. Next years crop will certainly be geared up for the caveman diet.
Thanks for the response, Steve

I can give the potatoes away but will be sorry to give away my beans and peas as I love eating them. I wouldn't get rid of the homegrown beans and peas... if you can tear it off a vine and eat it raw, I say go for it. Potatoes are a little "iffy," but I still include them in moderation. For me, the key is drastically reducing intake of grains, refined sugars, and dairy (though I still also occassionally indulge in organic dairy products, too). Balance and moderation tend to be more effective in the long run, than flat-out abstinence.

I love this forum, so much good advice. Well that's week 1 completed (midnight tonight to be exact) and the weight loss was .......12lbs. I am as happy as a dog with 2 dicks I can tell you. Not only do you get good advice but plenty of support. Another question please, I have abstained from dairy except for eggs. Where do I get my calcium from?
Eating nuts and fruit is great and I eat a lot of Goji berries. Have to be honest I feel so much better. Blood pressure has fallen to a more healthy level and now when I walk I don't get heart flutters.

Congratulations... those are some pretty incredible results for just one week! Eggs aren't considered dairy, as they aren't a milk product. It is important to make sure that you're getting enough calcium, especially once you cut milk and milk products out of your diet. Green leafy vegetables contain high levels of calcium (dark lettuce, spinach, broccoli, etc.), but if you still feel you aren't getting enough, don't be afraid to take a daily calcium supplement.

Thank you for your compliments. I have around 10 stones to lose so I expect the first couple will come off quite quickly. I have an allotment so plenty of green leafy veg isn't a problem. Eating stacks of salad at the moment (hard without salt & mayo) and am now find ing that I don't require quite so much meat. Am still eating potatoes at the moment as I have a crop to dig up bit they will be gone within the next couple of weeks. Again, no salt and them not dripping in butter is very hard but I am so determined to do this. Thanks once again for the advice.

Week 2 has been a bit harder because I have still cooked my Wife the food that she likes, such as rich cheese sauce. I used to love it and at the moment, miss it. Must keep moving forward though. Big weigh in again this Sunday so hopefully will have impressive results again which is my driving force. I did see on one site to eat with your fingers. Have been doing this and am having a ball.
