Howdy all,

My name is Rob, and I consider myself a minimalist. Or at least, I try to be. Sometimes it's hard to have that mentality, or at least put it into practice, with our diet. I love the concept of the caveman diet, and the physiology behind it is proven to work when appropriately implemented. Natural detox? Naturally healthy? Increased energy? All of these are big time "checks," in my /want column.  However, I have a problem that a lot of people who look for this kind of thing probably DON'T have. I am in no condition to lose weight. I'm actually a little underweight. I'm lean, I stay in shape, and I try to watch what I eat, but what I need is more healthy mass on my frame. I'm not looking to go on the twinkie and big-mac diet to throw on layers of fat, and I was a competitive weightlifter in my collegiate days, so I know all about the protein and muscle supplement lifestyle, too. Not interested in going down that road again - it's too hard on the body. I am wondering if anyone has crafted the caveman system to ADD healthy, positive weight to the body rather than to trim it off. I'm still going to stay in my fitness routine (running, compound body exercising, lifting, climbing, fighting....can you tell I get bored easily?) and I'm not trying to "get leaner." Anyone tried this? Anyone have tips about how to alter the system to accomplish the "put weight on" goal?

Thanks!
R.

when i want to put on weight I just eat more, mainly protein like a highly marbled cut of beef.  that seems to do the trick for me Smiley

I would honestly just up your calorie intake and possibly skip the first and 2nd stages of this diet. basically jumping right into it (like I did)!!

I am very much like you....... with a BMI of 20 i am at the lower end of OK weight. I've been on this diet about 6 months and have only lost 2 lbs.

Ditto to what Sid said...... eat plenty of protein including eggs, don't cut fat off your meat, and you should be fine. You can also use olive oil for cooking which will help too.

I've worked with several bodybuilders and powerlifters who have followed a strict paleo diet with great results. The similarities between the tradiotional "clean" lifter diet and the CPD is the main reason I tried paleo in the 1st place.
